my wrt54gl is running ddwrt. when i let torrenting go for a while, sites like gmail and ttf and others either timeout or they load incredibly slowly (like it takes 5 minutes).
so i kill my torrent app. that doesn't help, though. so i reboot my router. everything is fixed instantaneously. but if i try to start up torrents again, my connection goes to hell again.
so is ddwrt a piece of shit? what's wrong, here?

Whenever I torrent at work it shuts down the router for some reason.
looks like problem solved!
The problem with those damn SOHO routers is it can't handle the ports. Each seed and peer requires two ports. I used pfSense to track all port translations. A better port table combined with software packet filtering and quality of service allows me to browse/game/stream perfectly while torrenting.
