I was cycling to home from work when one of the pedals just fell off (?!)

My bike is almost falling apart (No wait, it IS falling apart), I need a new bike.

Any recommendations / suggestions? I just want a normal basic bike, but I want a reliable one that lasts ... I checked some websites, and there are some pretty expensive bikes out there, but are those necessarily better than the bikes in the medium price range? Or just it just features and fluff?

if you spend more, you'll hopefully get better quality parts that are also weigh less.

what websites have you checked? do you want something with gears? how many?
