I am not a robot...
Dad flies for one of the Billings hospitals. I've never heard him complain about anyone more than he does about TSA people.

i really dont have any complaints about the TSA people in billings, except the time i asked them where the security office was in the airport and they thought i needed police assistance and called in the pigs

i think the article places too much emphasis on a single accident. if there is a mistake in 1/1000 people then this kind of error is highly unlikely to be exploited by terrorists. expected return = u(gun)(1/1000) + u(getting caught)(999/1000) if the terrorists are risk neutral unless they value getting one gun on board approximately the same as they value 999 times getting caught they are not going to use such a method. their expected return in this situation (in terms of deaths) is at best 100(1/1000) ~ 1/10 where just shooting people outside the airport would be at least 1 (probably). so a rational terrorist will find better methods.

Personally I think TSA employees would be better utilized addressing statistically higher risk threats. Such as potholes and errant lightning strikes. Maybe they could go from house to house offering to check people's carbon monoxide detectors. Or just drive drunk people home from bars. All of these things would save a hell of a lot more lives.
