ttf development » ttf the forum, not the software

i want to rename it when i eliminate the forums. it won't be "think tank forums" anymore, it'll simply be "think tank forum".

i learned my lesson. if you're going to buy thinktankforums.com , also purchase thinktankforum.com . many people visit the latter address, then have to use google to find the real ttf.

i could try to buy thinktankforum.com from the shitbag company. but they'll probably want a lot of money for it, and i won't give them more than $30.

i was also thinking of other names for the forum, something like "symposium" (partially in appreciation of plato's dialogue). but anything cool that i think of is already taken.

thoughts on this?

other names would be cool. do you mean another name for the forum or for both the forum and the software? I think another name for just the forum would be a cool idea, just to differentiate it from the software or something.

ooh. so just one new name that would cover both of them or two new names, one for each?

well, i've always wanted a new name for the software. the whole "think tank" concept is descriptive of conversations here on this website, it isn't descriptive of the software.

i like the name for the website, but it'll maybe be concatenated into one "forum." in which case, i wish i had thinktankforum.com or some other good domain or name for it.

i fired off a couple emails about trademark infringement to godaddy.com and the owner of thinktankforum.com.

we'll see what happens.

Jeez, I'd go file thinktankforum(s) as a trademark then throw the filing in his face!

Damn, I didn't know it was that much. I have heard though that by proving that you have used it before, you should still be able to get it from him.

yes--in a court of law.

to utilize the streamlined udrp offered by godaddy.com, the trademark must be registered.

i could register it as a trademark for $275.

i kinda want to because i hate this person. if i actually redo the software, i'm going to buy it and stake my claim.

That guy sounds like a douche. I'd be willing to donate a small bit of money just to screw him out of his domain. :)

This site is much cooler :D

I am rather confused why he requires forum tagged onto his domain name.... he sells fish tanks?

i don't want to put out $275 myself, so i was thinking about asking for donations.

but then i thought that would be lame, because i would be the owner of the trademark without having paid for it fully myself.

so then i thought about registering a corporation to hold think tank forum properties (domains, service marks, &c). but it's such a hassle with the irs to become a 501.3.

ideas?

yeah, to become a 501c3 is a huge pain and would probably cost more than $275 dollars to do so if you are inside the US.

perhaps offer to buy him thinktank.com? or you could just buy thinktank.com or whatever you were thinking about renaming it... and just leave thinktankforums.com to redirect to the new URL...

tough situation.

501(3)(c) is the most complicated tax-exempt organization--i was looking at the following (much) simpler ones:

501(c)(2) — Title holding corporations for exempt organizations
501(c)(4) — Various political education organizations
501(c)(7) — Recreational club organizations
501(c)(25) — Title-holding corporations for qualified exempt organizations

but, yeah, to file with the irs to become tax-exempt, it costs $300:

Yeah. That's lame, IRS--

Can't you claim intellectual property or something? I hate how ridiculously complex stuff like this is. It totally deviates from the purpose.

it costs thousands of dollars to reclaim a squatted dns. the registrars support this sort of thing... since bulk registering of DNS by these scumbags is good for their business.

basically... ICANN isn't doing their job... and no one cares.

gaia online had two big problems:
-> their initial application was really awful (which was a one month setback)
-> their mark was determined to conflict with another (app was suspended for one year)

i expect mine to be registered within 6 to 9 months. my application is very good. unless my mark conflicts with another mark, i should get registered this year. i probably won't get an initial response for at least six months, then publication for opposition takes one month.
