i need to figure out all of this character set business. we need to push through all languages.
UTF-8!
naturally. but i need some implementation help. functions like htmlentities and htmlspecialchars break things.
so even if we specify UTF-8 to htmlspecialchars if we decide to use that function, i'm afraid that our other custom formatting functions will break characters.
and as far as i can tell, our database doesn't support a default charset nor a collation.
i have more research to do.

Did you guys ever do UTF-8? I use A LOT of Spanish.
the ttf code supports it, but our host's mysql version doesn't (it's running 4.0, 4.1 or high supports utf-8).

have you considered using a templating engine?
yeah, that's something me and a friend were actually planning last night
