i don't mind that everyone has their own quoting style. but i do think that quoting should be easier and more standardized.
i will have a quote link in each post that will copy the contents into the reply box like this: "<quote><cite>lucas</cite>post body contents</quote>"
and i'll try to do syntax highlighting with posts like "<php><?php echo "code!"; ?></php>". or i'll have it auto-detect the language.

The cite tag is a nice idea. Keep it up.

so how about that quote link that puts the post's text into the reply box? :)
javascript? gross!
but yeah, maybe

you could fall back to reloading the page or something if someone doesn't have javascript enabled :).

i vote against it. my favorite thing about ttf is just the simplicity without having all the random "features" of other forum software. small, short posts. we've all dealt with it with no issue up to this point.
fight the feature creep tendencies, lucas!
p.s. signatures would be awesome! :)

let me follow up by real quick. i know people already quote here. but with a quote 'feature' massive gratuitous use of it will follow. just flooding the threads. i think at least.

that might be true to an extent. a lot of time I just don't quote at all because I don't feel like copying and pasting and typing out the long ass tags. but I don't think it would flood the board with quotes or anything.
I vote for no quotes
Here's your solution:

and then I have to paste one line of a post at a time, and adjust the line breaks if the > makes the line too long…
srsly javascript quote is the quickest and most beneficial way to do this.

so instead of manually doing line breaks in my web browser, copy and paste a post into vim, do the line breaks there, and then copy it back into my web browser? great workaround.
I think lynx lets you edit text fields with an external editor at the push of a button. :)
