yum.. I want to try turkish coffee.
I've had a thick korean coffee before and a few vietnamese ones :D

Is Columbian coffee really what every makes it out to be?
i'm a huge espresso fan... regular "coffee" not so much.
oh and dp- turkish coffee is great. its more like mediterranean coffee though, had it in crete when i was there
totally feeling the americano i'm sipping

am I a bad coffee drinker because I use a coffee maker? I don't ever do anything fancy; I just make a cup of Newman's Own coffee and drink it black. there's also this brand called Chock Full o' Nuts that's not bad and is really cheap.
I just like coffee, I don't really know that much about it.
so you just mean drip coffee, nestor?
a bad coffee drinker? no. i want to get a drip machine for ease of use in the morning. plus i get sick of cleaning my french press all the time.
> Newman's Own coffee
i've never seen this. i wonder what it's like.
> Chock Full o' Nuts that's not bad
yeah, it's not bad for pre-ground coffee, iirc.
i don't hate drip coffee
just the idea that coffee = drip coffee.
oh.

Newman's Own is by far the best coffee I've ever had. not that that's saying too much, but it's still damn good.
I've never ground my own. some day when I have my own place maybe I'll get more into coffee stuff. for now I'm happy with my coffee maker.

and when I'm talking about Newman's Own coffee, I mean the Special Blend one:
http://www.nemerchandising.com/images/newmans_newbag.jpg
I haven't had any of the other ones like Decaf or Columbian Especial.
i'm drinking cowboy coffee today because our drip maker is in such horrible shape.
i'm trying to cut some costs and the $2 a day for a large americano was hurting
this morning i washed down caffeine pills with a cup of cowboy coffee
simulated triple americano :o
synthetic americano?
in any case i'm feeling totally irritable and itchy.
haha
so last night i won a 'leadership award' at my faculty's student society appreciation dinner (perhaps they are trying to get me to stay at queens)
in it was a $10 sbux gift certificate. on the back it says to register on the sbux website.
apparently you can set it up to automatically reload money on it - no fumbling with cash - brilliant idea in my mind. not sure if i will want to do it, as i only have a month left in kingston and london has some filthy awesome coffee shops that i'd much rather support (or i'll just get my espresso machine from my parents house and do it right).
congratulations on the award!

Neat!
i'm at the best cafe in bozeman, and i just witnessed this:
1. a man asks for a latte, "blazing hot."
2. a barista makes it, hands it to him, telling him that it was "boiling."
what? seriously?
HERE IS A TIP: NEVER BOIL MILK.
i've gotten too many fucking lattes with skin here. i'll call that the foremost sin.
people should just buy vacuum flasks instead of heating everything up so much

i just made melitta and added a shot of jameson's. lovin' it.
morning routine
open eyes to iphone alarm (klaxons, and not the band). 50% chance of yelling a swear word.
get up, go to bathroom, choke down 400mg caffeine pills. crawl back into bed and set alarm for 20 minutes later.

so how do you feel when you wake up 20 mins later?
when i was a freshman, this one time i woke up in the morning for class after only four hours of sleep. i was utterly exhausted, so i chugged a rockstar. but then i accidentally fell back asleep and slept through my classes. :(
as long as the second alarm works, i think the caffeine will have started to act, and it'd be easier.
is that the case, nestorius?
i sleep about 4-6 hours every weeknight.
honestly, i don't feel good in the "morning" even when i wake up at 2 in the afternoon after sleeping for 12 hours. i just feel way more awake at night then i do in the morning.
asemisldkfj

I have the same thing, at evening/night I feel so much more active and think much clearer.
It's because of the natural rhythm in the body, apparently it's genetic so you can't really change it by will... :-(
Also, I'm late at work soooo often ... And they don't buy the genetic excuse :-(
Anyway ... Back on topic ...
I Like coffee, but like asem I just use normal ``drip coffee'' ... I do have a few antique coffee grounders I inherited from my grandfather a few months ago ...
I used to have a percolator, loved it ... I always had to think about Twin Peaks thought (``Don't think that boys, there was a fish in the percolator'').
i misjudged the grind, grimy press coffee :P
so i am sitting in this coffee shop in livingston and there is this guy like 80 years old that comes in every day unsteadily with his cane and sits at a table and has two or three cups of coffee and some animal crackers. after him coming in for months like this rain or snow the owner decides today he is going to sit down with this old man and tell him that he is allowed one free refill but any more than that will cost him 50 cents from now on. the old man is hard of hearing and so the owner basically has to talk loud enough for everybody in the shop to hear. butthe old man never once had asked for refills, he just sat and when the baristas weren't attending other customers they would go out of their way to refill his coffee.

new method: wake up at 6:40 (felt remarkably good at that time. note: must estimate REM cycle). take 400mg caffeine. fall back asleep. natural wakeup 1 hr 15 minutes later. feel great (a little wired though)
.. 400mg?! that is a lot.
4 cups worth. doesn't really bother me
basically waking up naturally (even if it is with caffeine) feels so much better than waking up to an alarm.

you should just inject the stuff straight into your veins
Get a caffeine pump. :)
300mg does not wake me up on its own. the alarm did, ouch

I may have inadvertently become dependent on coffee. I didn't have any one day last week and felt like absolute shit at work. then I got a cup. might have been partly because I was hungry too.
i quit coffee a few weeks ago. might start again when a few long-term projects are over otherwise i'll be crazy stressed
Had some coffee before my exam today.

Also had excedrin for breakfast the last two days. It's sort of like drinking coffee...there's one cup's worth of caffeine in each dose!

Does anyone want beans sent to them? I work for a pretty slick company that roasts all of our coffee here in Calgary. I would love to share some of the current joy in my life with some rad people I've known on and off for the last 5 years!

i think i'm going to buy one of these Bialetti moka makers:
http://www.amazon.com/Bialetti-Express-3-Cup- … B0000CF3Q6
used one in new zealand quite a bit and it made the best coffee i've had. anyone else used this kind before?
I've got a giant one of those at home, something like 10 cup. I've also used the really tiny one 2 cup? They're pretty fun, and make a ridiculously thick and tiny cup of coffee.
i had one when i was really young. it was fun.
i don't know how seriously coffee connoisseurs regard them, though

I bought one today, the 6 cup. walked into a kitchen supply store just to see if they had it, and it was only $5 more than on amazon! good enough. time to test it out ;D

this equal exchange french roast I'm drinking at work right now is pretty close to perfect.
so i got home late last night from work and my hario arrived, along with some new beans. my first brew was barely drinkable (it was literally the first cup of manually ground / non auto drip coffee i have EVER made!).
i think the grind was WAY too coarse and as a result the brew time was far too short, like 1 minute instead of the 3 to 4 that i've read. i'll need to practice on grind size tomorrow.
my brew temperature may have been too low as well, i transferred the water from an electric kettle to a pyrex measuring cup that wasn't pre-heated.
did a finer grind last night and it tasted a lot better, although at the end the flow got choked up and i had to pull the filter out before all the water had gone through. need to go a little coarser, i guess.
Buy an AeroPress if you haven't already. Damn good coffee for $30.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
aeropress seems like so much work to clean! I've been doing chemex pourover for a long time. finally investing in an electric burr grinder (baratza something; a coworker is gifting me his old one) instead of hand grinding lol. I subscribe to passenger coffee now so I get a bag of beans every 3 weeks or so, it's great.
nice.
i'm poor so i buy cheap lavazza coffee on amazon (like 2.2 lbs for $15).
depending on what i want and where i am:
espresso* / chemex* / melitta / mr. coffee
[*] only at home, not in my office
i'm intrigued by the aeropress. but i don't need more methods right now.
> aeropress seems like so much work to clean!
Nah, it's easy. You just press it through to dispose of the coffee in the bin, rinse the top, and that's it. Much easier than a french press.
I bought and broke 3 coffee grinders here already, so back to just using pre-ground coffee. Kinda hard to get quality products here :-(
