this is just a mirror, the site goes down often.

I heard about this on NPR a while back regarding Guantanamo operations and forgot about it. I rediscovered it on digg article.

slander against my career (ish) choice! bah!

i'm surprised i haven't heard about this stuff before - i've had to do a lot of reading on insider trading and these 10b5 plans. the thing is the 10b5 insider trading isn't returning nearly as much as you would expect (6%)... don't have comparable numbers on me but they are definitely bigger than these.

watched the pentagon response to the leak today. seems like it was pretty unavoidable. news crews embedded with insurgents are by no means safe.

I've been really desensitized to this stuff. I still think the whole ordeal is fucked, but watching this didn't do much for me. I'm going to copy and paste a post a friend of mine made on lemmingtrail, because it is 100% right on everything.

this is so fucked.
it's fucked that soldiers do this, it's fucked that they're trained to do it, it's fucked that they get solely blamed for it and that in the end it's profiteers and paper pushers making these decisions- not the specific "engagement" (amazing euphemism for "murder," eh?) just the decision to colonize entire countries/whatever natural resources are under them but also to sacrifice as many residents as they see fit ,as well as soldiers. that video makes me want to hate the people behind the guns, but i've had enough super-intense conversations with vets to realize that it's not like the point of war is for the US to "win." That is if you're defining a country as it's citizens- that kind of brainwashing and what people are trained to do as a result either gets you killed or PTSD, guaranteed, which just strengthens cycles of mental illness, abuse, and violence within everyone that war touches-mostly civilians.
I also think it's odd that whoever said that it's fucked that people join the army was called "childish." Is war not childish? I mean, I think it's oversimiplification to say "if you join the army you're an asshole," and though everyone is responsible for their actions for the most part, it is people who are actually profiting off of war who are the ultimate shitbags. Yeah each individual cog can be a monkeywrench, too, but they're not the one's engineering the whole machine.

Mostly I think it struck a cord with me because of the single target; the one they really went after. He's my age, he's a photographer, and just thinking about his will to live was heartbreaking, considering their persistence in killing him.

But, I agree with your friend, asemi. I also can't blame the individual soldiers for the incident. If we are desensitized to these videos as civilians, I can't imagine what military personnel are immune to.

That said, there is a tiny part of me that wants to ruin that gleeful motherfucker at the end. "Look at all those dead bastards!"

I really can't believe how many companys are blocking services from wikileaks. I think a lot of people know there is dirt on them and one of I'm waiting to see is if that Bank of America data ever shows up.
