I just did a pretty badass loop through montana this weekend. went from butte, mt up to helena and then got on highway 12/89. took that down to townsend and then took the 12 east all the way to roundup. I did camp a night near checkerboard. Then today i took the interstate back to butte.
Kinda feels like paradise the last few days.
Friday the house went to Santa Cruz and the beach was packed!
I hit up San Francisco again taking the BART train. Round trip it's about $11, getting to the station takes about 10 minutes. The ride was a bit longer than expected at an hour and a half. Saw some dude smoking crack near the museum :p I should have worn some warmer clothes there, it got pretty chilly in shorts and a short sleeve shirt.
I cleaned the bathroom today! Here's to freshness!

i was at work. currently i am working at my local municipal govt (london, ontario), doing roadwork. i actually do asphalt, so fix potholes and lay down asphalt after sewer and water guys go in.
anyway, i work with this really intense greek man who i suspect is at least 70 years old and has some crafty way of avoiding forced retirement. he rakes out the asphalt after i shovel it from the back of the truck.
he normally says ABSOLUTELY nothing to me. he hates pretty much every one at the yard except for me because i know things about greece (and love it), and i don't say much to him either. and i work really hard.
anyway we're just driving around avoiding work and he turns around and says 'ARE YOU CATHOLIC'. i'm respond... 'yes', because i am, technically, and i suspected he was going to invoke some pro-religious thing. he then says 'are you a good catholic' and i say 'uh.. yes and no', because i still had no idea where he was going and didn't feel like getting into a theological debate.
he is silent for a few minutes and then enters in this little tale, about how if he were the last person who didn't believe in god, and there were 'one zero zero zero zero zero... etc' people who were religious and he were the last atheist he wouldn't get struck down by god. i still have no idea what he was getting at, and then he looked me straight in the eye and shouts 'RELIGION IS THE BIGGEST LIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD' and turns back around.

it was my first day of work - i was jet lagged and kind of out of it. our swivel chairs have jacket hanger things so we can take our jackets off and because the public transport gets pretty hot people leave jackets at work. i was sitting at the desk of someone on vacation and they left a jacket there, so i put my jacket on top of it. i put my ipod into what i thought was my jacket pocket. later that day when i had my jacket on i realized my pocket was actually stitched shut, and my ipod was no where to be found. today the girl comes back from vacation and is like... is this your ipod? i had put my ipod in her jacket pocket.

I think it did! I will not know till sometime during the week, probably. I got to meet with the head photographer and the 5 other photographers at this Gem and Bead company. I would start out doing photoshop bitch work cutting out necklaces with the pen tool, then hopefully move up to the RAW conversion, color correction, sizing biznass for their catalog.

They took me aside before i got started and told me they wanted me to start doing raw file processing instead of clip pathing (pen tooling gems, beads, jewelry in photoshop) and also for being a back up photographer when one of the other 5 are absent for any reason. Pretty happy about this. i don't know how much hardcore clip pathing i could handle.. so instead i deal with organizing all of the thousands of photos they use in their catalog and website.

on the train there was some ad for a gene therapy research company of something, and someone had written "Pharma only cares about profits. everything else is secondary" on the ad, so I wrote "Fortunately, profits are good at motivating them to cure diseases."
don't get me wrong, I think that profit taking precedence over equal access to care and things like that is fucked up too, and I think that there is a lot of room for improvement in healthcare, but I really hate simplistic, dismissive, whiny complaining.

a friend of mine is doing a project where he collects mix tapes and CDs from people and is going to place them around Copenhagen with "take me" signs. I made a case for mine out of wood tonight at the MIT Boston Fab Lab!!

oh and I plan on putting a circle of felt in the insert so the CD has a safe resting place.
I'm going to etch some artwork and the track listing into the front and back of the case with the same laser cutter I used to cut the wood. I'm holding off on gluing it together until the artwork is etched in.

That's really bad ass asemi! One of my friends and I were talking about leaving mix tapes around too, and this looks like it could be a more interesting way of going about it.
I need to figure out a construction method that gives me a wooden case with the same dimensions as a regular CD case. 125 mm x 140 mm x whatever (I don't care how thick it is really).
I will have full time access to a 35 watt epilog on tuesday =P

received three computers from a friend of mine. used parts from one of them to fix my fileserver. the motherboard has the same sata chipset as the pci card that didn't work in the old fileserver, so now i've got six sata ports on the mobo, and four on the pci card \o/

I had Mexican Coke for the first time. Unfortunately it was both a tasty and painful experience. When I opened it, it had been shaken in a car and left in the heat. The result was a high powered rocket lid that impacted my eye. It's now bloodshot and bruised. I'm glad I didn't get a scratched cornea.
