i recently ripped all of my cds to flac. i have problems with five of them:

are consumer cd repairing/cleaning kits useful? what should i do?

i have owned a "cd doctor" manual crank for almost a decade... i think it was $30 at the time. i used to take it into highschool and offer to repair cds for free (i was very in need of friends...being that i was fat at the time, and very shy)
anyway... it will repair almost any non-cracked and non plastic damaged disc (no black circles of sadness). ive repaired cds that just sat on the floor of my car for a few months. it sometimes takes a few spins

most record stores will scrap off the top layer of plastic leaving you with a fresh new cd for a couple bux
or you could just accept lossy mp3s and not be so ocd :)

You can use toothpaste to polish the CD ...
If you are looking for a place to do them for you my buddy would recommend fun trade on grand. He vists them at least once a week for dvds he sells. Its about 2$

i called hastings here in bozeman. the girl on the phone said they do laser resurfacing. when i got there, i found out they simply have a gimmicky buffing machine which doesn't do much. the kid let me run one cd for free. so i ran the beulah cd. it's ripping right now...
whoa, now it's hanging even sooner at 34.5%!

oh well, waffles has a good rip of this beulah album .
so i wiped the cd with a microfiber cloth. it made it to 44.3% then hung.
