16:16 <@andre> i wish ttf had inline pictures
16:19 < brain> inline pictures would be nice
16:20 < arun> pictures would make it slow to load
16:20 < arun> i like it the way it is
16:21 < brain> that's true
16:21 < brain> it loads pretty quick as it is
16:21 <@andre> only if there's abuse...
16:21 < arun> good point
16:21 <@andre> picture threads would be much more fun
16:21 <@andre> like bluet's 365
16:21 < arun> so that you can post weird pics
16:21 < arun> yep
16:21 <@andre> i didn't click on any pictures out of laziness
16:21 < arun> true
16:22 < arun> i looked at some
16:22 < brain> I did the same thing, andre
16:22 < brain> know what would be neat?
16:22 <@andre> maybe it could be done with ajax?
16:22 < brain> if you could make it have placeholders for images
16:22 <@andre> like "click here to load"
16:22 < brain> and there was a link to "load all images"
16:22 < brain> right
16:22 <@andre> without reloading the page
16:22 <@andre> that would be cool
16:22 < arun> that would be nice
16:22 < brain> go post it in the ttf dev forum :)

You see how cool that post would have been if we had inline images.

there's only one way i'll do it: if the images are hosted by ttf with resolution and file size constraints.

i hate going back over threads just to see dead images. so i'll make some way for users to upload images, the script will make sure they meet resolution and file size requirements, then they'll go on s3 forever.

ttf is javascript free currently. how about if you can set in your profile if you prefer to display images or not, then you can toggle it on demand per thread?

I think that would be great. By "the script will make sure they meet resolution and file size requirements" do you mean it'll resize images automatically if needed or just reject large ones?

would there be copyright concerns if you stored the images?

know what would be neat? if ttf automatically uploaded the image for you. like I could just do <img src="" /> or whatever and ttf would parse that, up the image to s3 or wherever, and substitute the image's new URL in my post.

the profile setting sounds good, but the per-thread toggle would be crucial.

i like large datasets
i like it old school with just link. makes me actually read the thread instead of scrolling pictures. but thats just cuz pictures make me lazy :)

> it'll resize images automatically if needed or just reject large ones?

just reject large ones, for the same reason that i don't resize avatars--it may make the image unintentionally unusable.

that could be a pain in the butt if people want to post large inline images, but I think it will actually be for the best because it will prevent people from either messing up the rendering of the thread (if you didn't resize) or misrepresenting the image (if you do resize).
