I don't have much time to decide. Semester starts Monday, this laptop is available only tonight and tomorrow.

My X60s is in need of repair:
1. Broken main hsf.
2. Power adapter recently became finicky.
3. No OS (got hacked :[ (XP))

I know the R51 is pretty outdated. What do you guys think of a $60 price tag on this working machine?

I'm currently looking into what I can do with it as far as parts swapping. Probably not much.

I can realistically delay if I need to. I'm waiting on financial aid. Maybe I can get a newer laptop?

$60 for an R51 isn't bad.

i want to sell my T61, but i'm asking for a lot more than $60.

personally, i want another x-series tp. i think you'd hate switching from a skinny x to a fat r.

I am pretty happy with my R51. I had to upgrade RAM to 768MB. It came with just 256MB. :( Sometimes I feel 40GB HDD is a bit less, but I got a 320GB external HDD. I run ubuntu on it with dwm as my window manager(GNOME or KDE runs fine too). Most of time is spent in a terminal. So if your needs are minimal, then R51 is a good laptop. Also, if you plan to play HD videos, then you better look for something else. HD playback is choppy on R51. Keep in mind that the h/w is pretty outdated. But I guess, $50 is pretty cheap. You can always get a new/better laptop and won't have to regret over what you paid for the R51.

Also, R51 is pretty fat compared to X series. And if you have to use more than 2 USB things at the same, you'll need a USB hub. Only 2 USB ports on mine. And no DVD-RW.

I'll skip out on this then. It also comes with a dock though, I just found out.

I'm not interested in going for something this outdated for school computing. If it really is important for me to use a computer soon I can use my Averatec with the jet-sound-fan for a windows platform.

I bought an R51 for $200 recently and am super-happy with it. $60 seems like a steal.

If you want more HD space, internal PATA disks are getting tougher and tougher to find. Then again, if you're not doing anything else with the two USB ports, external HDDs are OK.

Dp ... my brother said he's gonna give me his laptop soon so he can upgrade. I can sell you my T41 if it happens soon and you're still looking.

Well I no longer have that opportunity, I'm sure it would have been kinda cool. I'm interested in getting something that will work for me for school though.

I may be interested just for fun later. I might have some money for it in the future. Thanks phi.
